Emily

Emeli hails from the rugged hills of Intibucá, a poverty-stricken region of Honduras where the land is stitched together by swathes of vibrant green agriculture. Her childhood is painted against a backdrop of hard labor, as her parents rise with the sun, toiling in the fields, their hands calloused from years of cutting coffee beans and tending to their crops. Despite the beauty of their surroundings, the harsh realities of life in Intibucá cast a long shadow over Emeli's dreams.

In January of 2024, Emeli took a significant step, leaving her pueblo behind to gain a better future in Jericho. This new place, brimming with opportunities yet intimidatingly foreign, presented its own set of challenges. As she navigated the complexities of a new educational system, Emeli often found herself struggling to keep up with her peers. The language barriers and different teaching styles felt so foreign, but she perservered!

With unwavering determination, Emeli poured her efforts into her studies. Through sheer hard work and dedication, she achieved the remarkable feat of advancing to the sixth grade. At Jericho, Emeli has a chance for a brighter future, one that transcended the limits of her childhood in Intibucá.
